Description du programme

Rolf et Claire enquêtent sur le meurtre de la jeune femme. Après l'arrêt d'un jeune couple, l'affaire semble réglée. Mais les résultats d'un nouveau test ADN vont chambouler la suite des évènements...

In Paris, Rolf and Claire arrest the two men, Moreau and Fabien. The couple is brought in for interrogation along with their new baby Léo. They know nothing about the murder of Victoria, but admit to having paid her to be a surrogate mother using Moreau's semen, through a Polish Internet organization called "Bliss". The couple only met Victoria once, along with a man they confirm was the man from Sabina's video, and they tell Claire that Victoria seemed afraid. To the couple’s astonishment, a DNA test reveals that neither Moreau nor Victoria is biologically related to Léo: whoever the boy’s biological parents are, the couple has been cheated. The men are devastated, since they are not allowed to keep a child they actually have no rights to.
As Rolf takes in their pain at losing Léo, Claire confronts him about the loss of his own daughter. Is he even capable of concentrating on this case without conflating the two? Rolf deflects her criticism, unwilling to kill his hope of finding Andrea.
Back in Denmark, Rolf talks to Thybo about the situation. Though Thybo agrees that it does sound like it could be trafficking of babies, he advises Rolf not to dig further into the disappearing of Andrea, if only to keep his newly appeased relationship with Maria. Rolf moves into an apartment close to her, but has to contend with the fact that, although there is a strong connection between them, Maria has moved on and has new boyfriend.
As it turns out that Léo's Polish birth certificate is a fake, Rolf presents his theory to Oxvig: that Victoria has been used as a fake mom, in order to launder Léo through the Danish state, which didn't question the birth certificate. This indicates that the real mom likely didn't consent (otherwise, why use Victoria at all?). He wants to go back to Poland to try and find the baby’s biological mother.
Back in Poland, Rolf, Claire and Karol look into other cases of missing children. Rolf stumbles over an old report from a woman who thought her infant was stolen, and though Karol says that it has nothing to do with the case, Rolf insists on looking into it as it is close to where the car from the ferry was found in a river.
Rolf tracks down the home of the girl, who reported her infant stolen. It was Julita! (We come to realise in this episode that the Julita strand is not running concurrently, but five years earlier than the Rolf strand). Her home is demolished, so instead he goes to Mandorla, where she gave birth. He recognizes the symbol with the cross and the merciful hands from the vest in the stolen car. He asks the prioress about Julita's situation, but the only thing she tells him is that Julita's child was stillborn and that she suffered from a severe puerperal psychosis. When he asks if Mandorla delivers children to a company called “Bliss”, the prioress explains that Mandorla exclusively delivers to a government-approved adoption centre.
Meanwhile, in Denmark, Neel talks to Victoria's biological mother, who received a phone call from Victoria three weeks earlier, saying that she was in trouble. Neel tracks the phone call and it appears it was made from a Polish gas station – the same place that Minna was spotted! This is the proof they need: Victoria was in Poland three weeks earlier, presumably to get Léo. At the gas station, Claire, Rolf and Karol watch the recordings from the gas station's CCTV and see Victoria nervously making the call to her mother before disappearing into a car with the suspect from Minna’s disappearance and her own murder. Surprisingly, they don't drive towards the highway but instead in the direction of a forest, where this is nothing but a convent. Rolf, Claire and Karol drive in the same direction as Victoria and the man did three weeks earlier, going through the forest, and finally seeing a convent with dimly lit windows...
***
Five years prior, at Mandorla, Julita gives birth. It is a tough delivery, but she hears the screams and knows her little girl made it. When she wakes up, however, the baby is gone. The nuns try to convince her that the baby was stillborn but Julita doesn't believe them. She is convinced the nuns are stealing the girl from her. She calls the police for help, but the officer dismisses the case as the prioress shows him the death certificate for the child…
But Julita won't give up. At the adoption centre that Mandorla officially works with, she asks about her baby and other recent newborns who she knows have been given up for adoption during the last days. The manager at the adoption company is uncomprehending: they only receive children older than six months. Julita knows something is up – Mandorla must be giving the infants to another company, an illegal one…
She decides to spy on Mandorla during the night and discovers that a car picks up babies from the back door. She follows the car in the middle of the night, through a forest to the same gloomy convent Rolf and Claire have reached in their own timeline…
